OSHAWA: The C.C.D.H.H. contest provides an opportunity for young people who are deaf and hard of hearing to communicate in a public forum while developing valuable skills and self confidence. The Optimist International Foundation annual fund of $1,500.00 scholarship for each Optimist International District. Many District donate other

awards in order to provide the second scholarship.

Here in Oshawa the Zone 8 (Durham Region) contest will be conducted at the ultra modern Legends Centre (Leisure Room) located on Harmony North. The Leisure Room will accommodate upwards to 150 people and sports a brilliant 10 foot fire place creating a relaxed atmosphere for the students, parents and their friends. The Oshawa event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 14th commencing at 6:30 pm. (Map to the Legends as always is available on the website calendar at www.oshawaoptimist.ca/calendar/

Optimist Greg Bamber who is confided in a wheel chair himself suffered three years ago after falling from a roof of friend while assisting him with domestic repairs. He will be Oshawa chair for 2010. Last year Mr. Bamber served as one of the Oshawa judges.

He’ll receive assistance from president elect Sybil Dewhurst and a long time friend of the Oshawa Optimist movement Cathy Kehoe. Ms. Kehoe was another judge during the 2009 campaign and served long dedicated hours while working last year’s successfull car raffle.

Lynn McDowell a hearing resource teacher for the Durham District School board has been working closely with Optimist Special Events coordinator Jim Shaw in hosting this annual contest which the Optimist Club of Oshawa has sponsored for 16 years. Ms. McDowell is replacing her colleague Judy Moreau.She has held chairs position for over a decade. Ms. Moreau will guide McDowell ensuring the transformation period goes smoothly.

James Dallimore the Cenon Coordinator with the aid from Michael Sossin from the Richmond Hill Optimist Club has secured the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 375 hall for the Ontario finals on Sunday, April 25. For More Information e-mail ccdhh@oshawaoptimist.ca
