CCDHH 2009April 26th: Hail the champion, Laura Colley  who captured the junior division Community Contest For The Death And Hard Of Hearing (CCDHH) title at Optimist Park Sunday. She did was awesome and flawless reports her resource teacher Judy Moreau.

Ms. Colley attends grade five represented the Durham Region Zone 8  and attends Vaughan Willard Public School in Pickering. Colley advanced to the Ontario finals winning the Optimist Club of Oshawa sponsored event on April 15th at Johnny’s Original Eatery.

It was refreshing watching her performance with no notes was delivering a flawless speech completely from memory.  “She was well prepared” .remarked Moreau.

Certainly it was a delight watching her accept the $250.00 gift certificate donated by Chapters Book Store.

Another Moreau student, Sarah Motlana representing Dunbarton Highshool in Pickering turned in a fabulous effort while Britany Hodgerman also from Pickering showed well during their speeches. She attends Fairport Beach Public School who teacher in Lynn McDowell

The Optimist CCDHH event chair Margaret Ross was proud of all the students stating in her mind they where all champions and deserved those accolates for a job well done.

PICKERING STUDENTS DOMINATE CCDHH OSHAWA OPTIMIST CONTEST

CCDHH ContestantsOSHAWA, April 15th: Before a capacity crowd the 22nd annual Optimist Club of Oshawa members sponsored Communication Contest for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (CCDHH) proved to be another rewarding experience for five Durham Region students. The event was held at Johnny’s Original Eatery in Oshawa.

Working in partnership with the Durham Regional School Board headed by Resource Teacher Judy Moreau and her fellow teachers Cindy MacPherson, Lynn McDowell and Wendy Rhead who supplied five gifted and remarkable students. This group represented the municipties of Ajax, Pickering, Port Perry and Oshawa.

All the students are dedicated individuals seeking acknowledgement and achievement recognition despite having various problems compared to the so-called main stream students. The youngster’s all delivered emotional speaches on the subject

“What Optimisum Means To Me”

At the completion of their respective five minute speeches a dymantic response resulted from the appreciative audience.

Optimist event chair Margaret Ross echoed a similiar and stronger comment stating “All the students are worthy champions and deserve accolates for a job well done”. She continue to say “It takes a special individual to stand up being injected into the spotlight while delivering a talk of sincere  emontion.

The research conducted by each student proved to be invaluable information on this important subject matter. As a result is was an All Pickering students who nailed down top honours in both the junior and senior division.  Sarah Motlani a grade 11 student representing the Dunbarton High School was acclaimed the senior champion. Meanwhile Laura Colley a grade 7 student at Vaughan Willard Public School and Britany Hodgement who attended Fairport Beach as a grade 7 stident where to co-junior champions placing first and second respectively.

This trio will advance to the Ontario finals scheduled for Brampton on Sunday April 26th. The senior division winner at Brampton will received a $1,500.00 scholarship award directed towards any university or college or their choice. The junior victory receives a $250.00 gift certicate from Chapters Book Store. At the Oshawa hosted event ALL students received a individual a particiption ingraved plaque and medillion.

Other contestants where Kierston Jackson from Oshawa’s Pierre Elliott eliminatory where she’s enrolled in grade six while Amanda Evans represented the S.A.Cawker PS in Port Perry. She’s enrolled into grad seven. Unable to attend the Oshawa events was colourful Drew Mastrmartino and annual veteran from Pickering who suffered from an illness the same day. He always brings along the bright side of life as these events.

CCDHH coordinator James Dallimore of Milton saluted the individual students for their strong efforts. He acknowledge the Optimist Club of Oshawa members for their efforts in supporting this worthy annual event covering the past twenty two years.

Cathy Kehoe, John Zarowny and Laura Levitt served as judges while Greg Bamber was the official timer. Kehoe, Zarowny and Bambers are loyal members from the Oshawa Optimist sponsored Monday Nite Euchre Club while Levitt represented the Durham Regional School Board.

OSHAWA OPTIMIST TO HOST CCDHH CONTEST APRIL 15

OSHAWA: The membership of the Optimist Club of Oshawa announced their club with be hosting the annual C.C.D.H.H. (Communication Contest For The Death & Hard Of Hearing) contest for 2009.

Working in close conjunction with Judy Moreau  the resource teacher from the Durham District School Board Association, Jim Dallimore and his capable assistant Dana Cowan the Optimist Cenon chairperson is has been established Zone 8, Oshawa hosted contest will be conducted on Wed. April 15th at 6:30 pm from Johnny’s Original Eatery located at 850 King St. West. The Cenon all-district finals as set for Sun. April 26 in Brampton.

OSHAWA,April 15 -It doesn’t get much better.The 20th annual Communication Contest for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing(CCDHH) was a huge success as a overflow crowd jammed into Johnny’s Original Eatery for these prestigious event.This event wassponsored and directed by the Oshawa Optimist Club membership. Working in complete harmony with the Durham Region District School Board Resource coordinator Judy Moreau this evening can be acknowledged as a complete success. Family bonding created by the Optimist Club of Oshawa members proved invaluable as positive accolades prevailed during this cascual yet sincere event.Certainly those in attendance departed with the atsmophere of a warm feeling within that had been created.

Speaking on the chosen topic “Why Me’ Why Not’” the three contestants being nervous resulted in a true competition in the spirit that it was created. Parents, Friends and loving relations all shared the moment.

Again co-event chairs – Optimist Carol Sargent and her trusty club member side kick Optimist Marg Ross did another outstanding job coordinating the evening.

Naturally the three speakers stole the spotlight.Grade 5 student Keirsten Jackson
from Oshawa’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau eliminatory school, Amanda Evans a grade six
student who attends Epsom Public located west of Port Perry and returning again
veteran Drew Mastromartino delivered a “polished” 4 minute talk. He attends Pickering High School and is a grade 11 student. Judge Michelle Andrews stated in her comments suggesting to Mastromartino that she would strongly recommend he add public speaking to his option choices at the college or University courses he chooses. Another judge Laura Levett in her comments to two junior contestants Jackson and Evans that both should continue their public speaking skills. She remarked both of you have a bright future ahead of yourselves.The third judge Greg Bamber who is strongly considering of joining the Optimist movement could relate to all three speakers. Now, confined to a wheelchair he suffered a mishap two years earlier saying he was “tears gaining courage and understanding from the speeches” delivered by all three speakers. Optimist president in waiting Petrina Perrineau the official timer,reported all speakers delivered their talks on time. She added importants tips about their individual deliveries.

The Optimist finals are scheduled for Georgetown at 1:00 pm on Sunday April 27th under the direction of Central Ontario Oratorical contest guru James Dallimore. This is the first time in over 15 years that Oshawa hasn’t hosted the finals. First place senior winner will receive $1,500.00 directed towards a scholarship to a university/college of his/her choice with the junior winner claiming $250.00 in vouchers from Chapters Book store.
Special mention was directed towards the speakers Resource Teachers who spend countless time directed towards bonding, understanding and devotion to their job and student/teacher relationship. Cindy MacPherson for speaker Keirsten Jackson, Wendy Rhead for Amanda Evans and Lynn McDowell for Drew Mastromartino.

Special guest Optimist was James Dallimore from the Georgetown club. Failing to appear where Ajax Optimist Club and Uxbridge Optimist Club failed to have representation.

OSHAWA, April 15 – The 20th Annual Zone 8 CCDHH contest sponsored solely by the Optimist Club of Oshawa members is set for April 15th. A venue has been chosen by co-chairs Carol Sargent and Marg Ross for 2008. Johnny’s Eatery home of the Otimist Weekly Euchre party will be the new site. Last year the contest was operated from the Co-Operative Conference Centre and prior at Oshawa Optimist Headquarters located by Southmead Park. At present we’ve acknowledged three speakers including Keirsten Jackson a grade 5 student from Pierre Elliott Trudeau PS in Oshawa, Grade 6 student Amanda Evans from Epsom PS east of Port Perry and Drew Mastromartino from Ajax who attends Pickering HS as a grade 11 student.
