Cook-off champions held at the G.L.Roberts Community Centre. The customers donated over<br />
$400.00 in this charity function and had the opportunity to taste eleven different types of Chili<br />
cooked from the stoves of the defending champion Oshawa Optimist Club, Price<br />
<br />
Chopper Food Store on Wentworth,The Bulldog Pub,South Oshawa-Community Policing Partners, Oshawa Fire Hall #2, South,Oshawa Community Health Centre, 7-Eleven Wenthworth Store, Durham Region Labour Council entered 3 teams, Chilli Tee&#8217;s, Wendy&#8217;s Just Beans and the Stone&#8217;s Throw Pub. The voting was accomplished by ballot from the individuals who purchased the product.&#8221;Actually every entry was a winner&#8221;said event coordinator Nancy Rogers and D.R.P.S. volunteer. Proceeds from this worthy community event was two South Oshawa Food Banks &#8211; St.Peter&#8217;s Anglican Church and St. Phillips Catholic Church.<br />
<br />
Optimist Ann Doyle and last year&#8217;s club president Susan Machnik captured the laurels in the &#8216;06. Machnik was unable to attend. She was away on vacation in Las Vegas, Nev while Doyle was bed ridden was a nasty case of the flu. Reliable Optimist veteran&#8217;s Optimist&#8217;s Mollie Olynik-Dryson and hubby Optimist Joe Dryson represented our club,-but related they had stiff in the friendly competition<br />
<br />
Customers brought along Non-perishable Food Product. Our membership donated a case of Kraft Dinner. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Oshawa.Nov 17th&#8230; Members from the Optimist of Oshawa Inc are back to defend their cooking title at the annual Optimist D.R.P.S. Chilli Cook Off being held at the new G.L.Roberts Community Centre 1455 Cedar St. South in Oshawa on Saturday, November 17th.<br />
<br />
Optimist chef Ann Doyle last years champ has added two new team-mates this year. Optimist Joseph Dryson and his lovely and talented wife Mollie Olynik-Dryson will add their expertise in an attempt to repeat at champions. Six other teams will be challenging the Oshawa Optimist representative to-date.<br />
<br />
Cost is $7.00 pp includes garlic bread and a beverage. Customers are requested to bring along a non-perishable food item which will divided between the St. Peter&#8217;s Anglician Church Food Bank and St. Phillips Catholic Church Food Bank located in South Oshawa.</p>

Machnik will be unable to attend this time. Her annual Las Vegas vacation occurs the same weekend. Doyle will be back. She&#8217;s recruited two reliable Optimist co-partners Mollie Olynik-Dryson and hubby Optimist Joe Dryson. The Dryson&#8217;s are superb cooks.<br />

This event has been moved to a larger venue due to it&#8217;s increasing popularity &#8211; The G.L.Roberts Community Centre located at 1455 Cedar Street from 3 pm till 7 pm. Cost is $7.00 pp including FREE refreshments.<br />
<br />
All customers are requested to bring a Non-perishable Food Product. Oshawa and Zone 8 Optimist are welcome to attend to cheer our team while enjoying 13 different types of Chilli all for the same cost. Eating time is between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm. </p>

Eating starts at 3 pm to 7 pm. A new venue was found as attendance in recent years have enjoyed sellout crowds. This year the new G.L.Roberts Community Centre at 1455 Cedar St S.will be the site. Sgt Jeff Hewett and his committee are expecting another banner crowd.</p>

Profits from the $7.00 pp plate (including refreshments) of Chilli will be shared by the Food Banks operated by St.Peter&#8217;s Anglican Church, St. Phillips Catholic Church and St.Vincent DePaul. Seven different groups are intending to upset the defending champions.<br />

Already Optimist Ann Doyle has volunteered her services to be our head cook. She has &#8220;super receipt&#8221; but refuses to release her ingredients. All Optimist and their friends are welcome to attend and eat. P.S&#8230;. kindly bring along a non-perishable food product.</p>
