OSHAWA CITY OFFICIALS -OPTIMIST REACH “D” DAY ON FRIEND OF YOUTH CENTRE
OSHAWA- Feb 04th…. After months of delays for a variety of reasons the two main players in the proposed “Youth Centre” at the Civic Auditorium’s old Bobby Orr Lounge could become a reality at a Monday morning at a 8:30 am called meeting by City of Oshawa’s- Mary Creighton and the Oshawa Optimist Club representatives club president Stephen Hambley and Jim Shaw. Creighton originally requested the Oshawa Optimist Club to become partners with the City of Oshawa in regards to proposed Youth Centre operated by the City for after-hour school’s program. The proposed room would be similar to the two others operated within Oshawa at G.L.Roberts Community Complex in South Oshawa and Legends Centre in north sector of the City. It is an accepted fact to need for a similar facility be made available in the centre of Oshawa. The Roberts/Legends venue have no partnerships agreements.
The Optimist Club have suggested this proposal in a natural fit as their mandate is being a “Friend Of Youth” organization. Hopefully a decision will be made on Feb 4 to permit the Optimist to operate a mammoth weekend Bingo Fundraiser to completely pay for the refurbishing and costing of this proposed venue which will include a theatre area, techinial area, techinial area, techinial area, games room, library etc.
In operating a weekend end Bingo probably in June this special event will be called “Looking Back” featuring the former stars from yesteryear from the Civic Auditorium complex including the Oshawa Generals (Hockey), Oshawa Green Gaels (lacrosse) Professional wresters, etc to work this proposed Bingo fundraiser. Hopefully the city will donate the venue (ie) the Civic Auditorium Arena complex or the new downtown GM Centre to operate the Bingo. Both venues are owned by the city. Optimist officials have been in contact with various “Looking Back” organizations and the response has been more than favourable for this worthwhile project.
