GUS GORDON BEST WITH 85 AT OPTIMIST EUCHRE


Oshawa, Jan 19th:- Vast improvement by Gus Gordon produced a first place victory
for the cagy veteran. He scored a brilliant  85 points beating off 35 other rivals including Kevin Woodcock who finished four points back with 81. “GG”collected  $20.00 Opti-cash for his effort. The week prior he scored 14 points less but rebounded for this impressive victory. It was his first win to date at the Monday Nite Weekly Fundraiser sponsored by the Optimist Club of Oshawa at Johnny’s Original Eatery. His solid performance included four individual lone hands with the the first coming to open the ten rounds of cards.
Four new members have joined the 1,000 point plateau. New members are – Kevin Woodcock (1079), Frank J.. Kavanagh and  Ruth Bell are deadlocked now at  1,016 points each while  the “Brooker” just squeezed in at a even 1,000. The week prior (Jan 12) Pat Brooks and George Hagerty had broken the sound barrier.  It is expected this “Six Pack” will be joined by Ronald Hele, Donna Flammino, Gary Fossum, Eric Goodwin and Neil Metcalf after our next Euchre session set for Mon. Jan 26th.
Donna Flammino continues as the pace setter in average percentage. “DF” boast a solid 71% but is being challenged by Margaret Conway 69%, Eric Goodwin who holds a nifty 68%.
Another close race continues in the individual lone hands section. Last year’s overall champion Ronald Hele has finally moved  into a two way tie for the leadership with slipper Kevin Woodcock both posted YTD totals of 37. Previous leader George Hagerty dropped
and remains one behind.
Opti-Tid-Bits .. Special acknowglement for a special couple Marg and David Conway The grand parents of nine, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary at our Optimist Monday Nite Euchre. Our group presented the couple with a special card and cake for the occasion. The Conway’s where married in Oshawa at Albert Street Church. All the Best Guys – Because both of you are the best....
Welcome aboard….to another new face this Euchre season our 70th  Erika Vanier. She appears courtesy of the Fossum’s Mary & Gary. Erika has a bubbling personality and certainly fitted right in with her Opti- peers.
Plus & Minus… comparing week to week stats Gary Fossum rebounded adding 22 more points from his Jan 19th showing.Gus Gordon improved by 14. On the flip side the ugly minus by comparsion. The Jan 19th  winner Greg Bamber was down twenty points (thank god he’s departing this weekend for a 7 day winter vacation). Margaret Conway dropped 18 points, Ruth Bell 14, and Ronald Hele 10.  The only way everyone should look at .. theirs always next week. Stephen Hambley demonstrated top individual prowless posting seven (7) lone hands. The bottle of Napa Valley Optimist wine he won was given to Marg Ross another long time Optimist. It was a big night for Ms. Ross, the group presented her with a beautiful kitchen clock prior to euchre.
