Optimist Event N0. 35
OSHAWA- Feb 17th… Optimist Club of Oshawa members WIN, Gennies WIN, Everybody WINS, that was the cry from the Optimist private box at the General Motors Centre Sunday, sending 5,912 happy patrons home, in the Oshawa Generals hard fought 5-3 victory over their East Division OHL arch rivals the Kingston Frontenacs.

This game was the climax of a successful GM Centre Hockey raffle draw – netting gross receipts of $1,508.00. This profit finished paying off our final account for our successful 24th Christmas Food Hamper and Toy deliveries held on Dec. 16th, 2007.

Justin Macwha and his group of ten rapid hockey fans along with Optimist President Stephen Hambley, Jim Shaw, Monday nite Euchre host Johnny Milosh and his partner Rosa Miragliotta attended this gala affair. Macwha the manager at the Five Points Electronic (The Source) held ticket No. 0090 was the official winner. The winning ticket was drawn by Zone 8 Optimist Lt. Governor Rick Hubbard. Tickets where published under the official lottery license of M567480.

Prior to the game Johnny’s Orginal Eatery hosted a delicious 5-course meal at the King/Thornton plaza location. FREE Parking was also part of the prize package donated by the City of Oshawa.

Optimist raffle chair Ann Doyle was unable to attend the gala wrap-up but had remarked earlier crediting all the raffle ballyhoo accolades should be directed towards her strong committee members comprised of Optimist Carol Sargent, Ann Doyle, Miles Richardson, Petrina Perrineau, Susan Machnik, president Stephen Hambley and Jim Shaw for their dedicated hours in manning the Five Point Mall outpost. This group created dynastic sales. She continued offering special praise to a strong groupof “Friend Of Optimists” volunteers comprised of Neil Metcalfe, John Brooks and Kenny Ferrill who spearheaded outside sales.

Our next major fundraiser is scheduled for the Herongate Barn Dinner Theatre in Pickering on April 6th.
