It’s Optimist Day At The Theatre
Yes the theatre located in nearby Pickering on Altona Road website ww.herongate.com.The location is approximately a 18 minute drive west Oshawa. Driving instructions… If you are coming from the west take Highway 401 exit at Whites Road, go north to Taunton Road. West to Altona Road for 1.5 km north. From the East use Highway 401 exit a Brock Road in Pickering-north to Taunton Road West to Altona Road for 1.5 km north. Our exclusive Optimist performance is set for All Optimist Members and their friends.
The play chosen is the “Melville Boys” and will be held on Sunday, April 6th, 2008. Doors open at high noon (12 pm).
The play features two brothers Owen and Lee Melville arriving at their uncle’s cabin for a weekend of beer and fishing. Their plans where altered by the arrival with the appearance of two sisters.The women stay the night and immediately become catalyst for this witty and very entertaining comedy resulting with four lives in transition.The comedy comes from the superior Canadian writer Norm Foster.
The Herongate Barn Theatre orginally started as a dairy farm housing animals until the 1970’s. When the barn ceased to be economical the building serviced auctions,barn dances and hayrides. In 1975 the venue was converted by the Ward Family for use as a theatre.
To-day the facility is truly a unique dinner theatre something to behold. Where else can you dine in a bull pen or manger while occupying theatre seats from the historic old Victory Burlesque Theatre in Toronto. At Herongate they work overtime to ensure you enjoy superb meal and delightful quality entertainment.
Your host the Optimist Club of Oshawa are using this date as another FUND RAISING event. All profits captured will directed towards the proposed “Youth Centre” in the Oshawa.
