RON HELE SHOWS-OFF AT OPTIMIST MONDAY NIGHT EUCHRE

OSHAWA- Jan 28th ..Ron Hele is an expert when it comes to classic cars and world travel. At the Monday night Progressive Monday Euchre Party sponsors by the Optimist Club of Oshawa Membership he now has bragging rights for his superb card playing. Hele accomplished this fete registering a new high in low hands of eight including doubles in the 8th and 9th games. He now holds solo ownership in this category having compiled 40,that’s five more than runner-ups Pat and John Brooks each with 35.His brilliant play included double-digits scores while playing with Norma Hubbell with 16,Pat Passfield 14 points, Marilyn Gordon with 11 points and his buddy Kevin Woodcock with 11 while using “Woody’s” pet rock for encouragement.
While dominating the competition he kept repeating himself he required more elbow room to his opposition players as a result a superb-dominating performance. From this point forwarded he’s aquired his new nickname of “Elbows” AKA – euchre’s version of Mr.Hockey himself Gordie Howe.


Welcome to the 1,000 point Plateau….
Welcome aboard the 1,000 point plus plateau to Peter Pniaustras, Marg Conway and Neil (Farmer Jack) Metcalfe. This trioka reached the coveted century mark on Jan 28. Pniaustras posted 63 points giving a YTD total 1,040, Conway had a 60 and now has 1,012 points while Metcalfe despite the lowest score posted only 50 points and now stands at
1,010 points. This trio joins the prestigious group of four others including John Brooks 1,143 points, Pat Brooks 1,139 points, George (Egg Salad) Hagerty 1,139 points and Miles Richardson 1,018 points. “Hats Off” to all of you for great play this Optimist Euchre series. Knocking on the door wanting to get into this “Selective Group” are Pat (Baba) Passfield at 996, Johnny Milosh at 993, Ken (Story Teller) Ferrill at 964, Ronald Hele 975 and Donna Flammino at 883.


One Hundred Dollar Jackpot & BBQ Now On April 7
The orginal scheduled final game for the Optimist Club of Oshawa sponsored Euchre Party has been reduced from a 30 games to 27. Our final series of games will be finalized on April 07 rather than orginally published date of April 28th.The new date (April 07) all players we be treated a FREE Optimist style BBQ Steak wrap-up dinner at Johnny’s Orginal Eatery 30 minutes prior to the normal euchre party with the normal start time of 7;00 pm. At the end of the evening a cash award of $100.00 will be presented to the top percentage player for the year overall point leader for the season. The individual winner will have had to play in 19 games to qualify. Reason for this is many players, take time off for winter vacations,work obligations etc. Another reason our host Johnny Milosh the owner has the opportunity of booking two difference banquets during April.


Welcome Aboard
A special welcome to Rob King from North Bay who joined us on Jan 28. Donna Flammino brought this classy gent along.He was a pleasure to be with posting a respectable 62 points in his first outing. Working in sales he’s in the Oshawa area a couple times a month and promises to return next time he’s in town.Also welcome back Maureen Gagliardi, a senior’s home shift worker who can only managed to attend alternative Monday’s. She was hot (Jan 28) checking in with 82 points good for 4th place overall. On Wed (Jan 30), Gus and Marilyn Gordon hit to route ‘66′ Highway for Las Vegas,Nevada,California,Texas on a 35 day auto trip. Both deserve the holiday. Enjoy and have safe trip from your Euchre buddies. Our godfather Mr. Johnny Milosh himself is off to Laughlin,Nevada this weekend for 7 days of enjoyable golfing with his male friends He’s return Feb 11th.


Prize Winners – Hambley’s Draw’s Own Ticket
Optimist Club President Stephen Hambley (’07-’08) is $46.00 richer after drawing his own ticket at the 50/50 draw on Jan 28th.He always buys $5.00 weekly but never considered he could ever win.Hambley was humble and accepted the cash. Top 50/50 prize winner for the year is Eric Goodwin he’s won 3 times collecting $133.00. Other Prize winners were Ronald Hele and Kevin Woodcock sharing $15.00 ea Frank J.Kavanaugh,Gary Fossum, Eric Goodwin, David Conway,Neil Metcalfe,John (Newfy) Thompson and Kevin Woodcock. Total in prizes awarded was $122.95

Perfect Attendance
A special salute to the Brooks Family, Pat and John along with George (Egg Salad) for their perfect attendance record this season. This trioka have been out to all 17 games. The Brooks family will have their record snapped however. In a couple weeks hence they head south for well deserved Sunshine Vacation in the Dominican Republic.
